Dr Ana Popovic

Dr Ana Popovic is a next generation leader in ESG, sustainability reporting, actions towards circular economy, environmental management, and life-cycle assessments. She performs independent research and builds a deep expertise in these areas and is a critical and independent thinker, with publications and scientific papers published in world’s leading journals. Dr Popovic has over 20 years of professional experience in drafting and implementing environmental and sustainability policies and strategies. She holds PhD degree in Environmental Engineering from University of Belgrade. Ana received her Environmental and Social Sustainability Management Master Class Diploma from Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, SDG Academy Climate Action: Solutions for a Changing Planet and The Systemic Circular Economy training, part of Western Balkans Circular and Climate Innovation Project of EIT Climate KIC and CirEkon, among other high-level courses.

Ana has been a key resource in advancing large-scale projects. She served as the Topic Area Leader for Environmental Management and Local Governance at the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (2012-2017). Key multiannual development projects where Ana had a management role and provided “hands-on” expertise included Sustainable Use of Transboundary Water Resources and Water Security Management project component 2: Water and Security in Middle East and North Africa region, supported by Gov. of Sweden, Setting up Environmental management center within Serbian Environmental Protection Agency, supported by Gov. of Norway, The Regional Environmental Reconstruction Programme (REReP) Secretariat in South Eastern Europe supported by European Commission, Towards Zero-Waste in Industrial Networks research project. Ana provided expertise to the European Environmental Agency through Topic Center activities, supported Environmental Compliance and Enforcement Network for Accession for resource toolkit, guidance materials and capacity building activities. Ana was a co-chair of an international conference “Reporting for Sustainability”, supporting relevant developments in Southeastern Europe. Ana was also acting as Global Sustainability Specialist for Ball corporation in 2018, as well as contributed to delivering ESG analyses and reports with several industrial partners in Serbia. She was an evaluation expert in UNDP’s Climate Smart Bio - Waste Management Challenge projects and EU for Green Agenda in Serbia: Get Started, Take Action, Scale-up (2021-2022).

Dr. Popovic currently serves as a senior lecturer in environmental engineering at the Academy of Applied Technical Studies Belgrade. Ana believes that the ultimate basis of engineering is creating something for the purpose of enhancing life, whether that be through easing the difficulty involved in a task, reducing the time required, or minimizing the environmental damage of certain activities. Determined, optimistic and engaging with strong diplomatic and interpersonal skills, Ana is experienced in establishing lasting relationships to build bigger and better business.
